Web 2.0 in a Practical Sense

Last night, we discussed the way we all love to share our experiences with others…  whether that be a good or bad, we share about a movie, restaurant, or friend.  For better or worse, there’s something in most of us that desire our story to be shared.

When the internet transformed itself from a static, point & click environment to an interactive exchange of thoughts, ideas and contribution, the world became a different place.

The Machine is Us

Around the world, millions of people blog, post pictures, share videos, forward cute emails (some just annoying), exchange texts, find friends, and in all, create relationship through a virtual world.  Albeit, much of this surreal interaction is very impersonal…  after all, much of what is posted via web is actually rant and disclosure of intimate experience, a break up, a lost job, a dream, a fear, and the list goes on.

Why is that?

I believe God designed us all for relationship.  We were made to interact and when we don’t, we feel isolated, disconnected and alone.  Maybe that’s where so many people are at.

When Jesus proclaim that we should “go into all the world” it wasn’t as literal as some have made it.  In other words, you don’t need a passport or boarding pass to reach people.  In this day and age, you can simply post a Youtube video from your laptop and all of a sudden, thousands and thousand of people connect with what you’re saying.

What if your part to play is actually as simple as JOINING THE CONVERSATION?

Could it be that using of technology in the Web 2.0 world is actually a heavenly invitation to transfer the focus on yourself to the needs and interests of others?

On thursday Angus said somethings that really made me think… Why do we have to us the internet/blogging to talk about our feelings but when we get confronted by someone face to face we say we are fine. Just like people plaster some statement on there status on facebook but when you say something to them about it, they get made for getting in to there business.. I dont understand. People ask for advice all the time but wont tell you the story and then when you try to get any advice they laugh… WHY IS THAT??

What I was amazed by is how simple this technology is to use. I am far from being tech savy but these things are something anyone can learn to use. I am excitied about the potential.
